Dhaka is the capital and largest city of Bangladesh, a vibrant and diverse country in South Asia. Dhaka is also one of the most densely populated and chaotic cities in the world, with a rich history and culture that can be overwhelming for visitors. But if you are looking for an authentic and memorable experience, Dhaka has a lot to offer. Here are some of the highlights of Dhaka city that you should not miss.

Visit the Lalbagh Fort, a 17th-century Mughal fortress that was never completed. You can admire the architecture and gardens, and learn about the history and legends of this place.

Ahsan Manzil: Also known as the Pink Palace, Ahsan Manzil is a stunning architectural gem that was once the official residential palace of the Nawabs of Dhaka. It now serves as a museum showcasing artifacts and memorabilia from the bygone era.

Dhakeshwari Hindu Temple: Known as the national temple of Bangladesh, Dhakeshwari Temple is a significant Hindu place of worship. Its ornate architecture and religious fervor make it a captivating site for visitors.

National Parliament House: Designed by renowned architect Louis Kahn, the National Parliament House is an architectural marvel. Its striking design and vast grounds are worth exploring, showcasing the country’s modern aspirations.

New Market: A vibrant shopping destination, New Market is a bustling bazaar that offers a wide range of goods, from clothing and accessories to traditional handicrafts and souvenirs.

Dhaka University Campus: Stroll through the picturesque campus of Dhaka University, one of the oldest and most prestigious educational institutions in Bangladesh. The campus features beautiful architecture, serene lakes, and lush greenery.

Street Food Delights: Dhaka is renowned for its delectable street food. Sample mouthwatering treats like biryani, kacchi biryani, jhalmuri, pani puri, and various kebabs from bustling street stalls and local eateries.

Explore Old Dhaka, where you can see the contrast between the modern and the traditional. You can walk through the narrow streets, visit the mosques and temples, shop at the bazaars, and taste the local cuisine.
Enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the National Botanical Garden, which covers 205 acres of land and hosts more than 500 species of plants. The National Zoo is adjacent to the garden and has a variety of animals.
Experience the culture and art of Bangladesh at the National Museum, which houses an extensive collection of artifacts, artworks, and historical exhibits that offer insights into Bangladesh’s cultural heritage.

The Liberation War Museum documents the struggle for independence from Pakistan in 1971.
Witness the hustle and bustle of Dhaka at the Sadarghat River Port, one of the largest river ports in Asia. You can see hundreds of boats and ferries carrying passengers and goods, and even take a ride on one of them.

These highlights provide just a glimpse of what Dhaka has to offer. The city’s vibrant energy, historical landmarks, and warm hospitality make it a compelling destination for travelers seeking a unique and immersive experience.

I really enjoyed the day with Jewel. He is a excellent guide with a huge knowledge. I saw many sights and learned new things about Dhaka, Bangladesh und the culture. The points of interest were choosen carefully and showed a diverse of Dhaka. As well Jewel took care about my ideas and questions. He never got tired of all the issues I asked for and responded each and every inquiry. This trip not only diverts my thoughts for many hours it expands my horizon with many new aspect of thinking! While we were exploring the University and other buildings and points of interests around, seeing old Dhaka, the Lalbagh Fort, the hindu street, the port and at least the Pink palast I always felt well guided and safely. We tasted local food and Jewel showed me places to buy nice souvenirs, handcrafts and snacks. He is such a interessting person and took care of all my needs. It seems that he knows this city likes his pocket. We had such a laugh by trying to ride a rickshaw. Time flew and I am still amused by this city and all the beauty and interesting sights we explored. I highly recommend this tour for everybody!

    Wonderful Tour of Rural Dhaka
    Oct 2016 • Solo
It’s hard to imagine a better guide than Jewel. He is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, fluent in English, tireless in his efforts to please, and fun to be with!

Jewel guided me on a day tour of rural Dhaka, visiting among other things, an old palace, a fascinating rural village with wonderfully friendly people and curious children, an ironcraft workshop, and a Hindu pottery village that had to be reached by boat. It’s a day I’ll remember for a long time. Thank you, Jewel!

    A Great Day Of Exploring
    Dec 2018 • Friends
Jewel was very cooperative with us about everything, including the itinerary and timings. Not only did our foreign friends get to learn a little bit about Dhaka, but even my husband and I, who are Dhakaiites, experienced the city in a whole new way. We explored the labyrinth of the Old Town, had a feast for lunch, and even boated along the Buriganga amongst other things. Jewel’s passion for being a guide really shines through and while he is very knowledgeable on various, he also isn’t afraid to admit if he doesn’t know something. All in all, a great day!

Exhilarating and colourful tour of Dhaka city
    Nov 2019
A friend recommended Jewel’s tour company when I was searching for options for a Dhaka city tour for myself and a friend from Europe (who was visiting Bangladesh for the first time). We started at 9am and, over the course of the day, visited 10+ different sites (mosques, museums, churches, etc.), ate at a typical, local restaurant in Old Dhaka, walked through markets and several packed and vibrant side roads, went on a boat ride on the Buriganga and much more. Our guide Afridi was friendly, knowledgeable and very relaxed. What was particularly appreciated was that he took care of all payments, entry tickets, etc. – which helped make things much easier.

Overall it was a memorable trip that my friend found wonderful. The tour also gave me a chance to reconnect with the city I grew up in. Many thanks to Jewel and Afridi from us both!

    First time in Dhaka
    Nov 2019
I booked the Old Dhaka tour last minute, as I was concluding my business trip and didn’t have a lot of other time to see the city. As a solo female traveler, I was hesitant at first and not sure of what to except. My tour guide and driver were very kind and professional, and I greatly enjoyed their company. The tour guide was a young university student, who spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable and eager to share his city. I don’t recall the names of all the places we visited, but we went to the bustling market in the morning, walked around the university campus, visited the new market and watched artists sew and stamp fabrics, stopped for lunch and tasted different mashed vegetable dishes, and in the afternoon visited some historic sites: the pink buildings in a garden, the pink palace, the Armenian church, a Hindu temple, a mosque, and we also visited the river front and walked around one of the big ferries. I decided not to go on a river boat ride, but we did ride a few rickshaws which was quite fun actually, despite the hectic traffic and the absolutely crazy city streets. Thank you very much for an interesting cultural experience! And a big thank you to my guide. It was a pleasure to talk to a friendly local, and learn more about the culture of Dhaka.

    Mar 2021 • Couples
Thanks to Royal Bengal Tours we had a great day out in Old Dhaka with Jewel, who is an amazing guide. He is very knowledgeable, kind, respectful and funny and has friends all over old Dhaka, who will invite you for a cup of tea. Jewel was able to organise our tour on a very short notice and enabled us not only to see the most famous sights but more importantly to meet the people of Old Dhaka and to thereby get a real insight into everyday life in this incredibly busy part of the mega city. You haven’t seen Dhaka until you do this tour! I can fully recomment this tour!
