Golden light photography in Chittagong enchanting city of Bangladesh, Known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes, Chittagong offers a wealth of opportunities for photographers to capture stunning golden hour shots. Chittagong itself is a perfect image. A photographer could easily spend a few days exploring Chittagong City and its surrounding areas, including the world’s largest shipbreaking yards, coastal fishing villages and the visible effects of climate change on their daily lives. Exploring an early morning sea fish market is absolutely crazy and overwhelming.

Local flea markets and evening markets are like moving colors on a canvas. Collect your stories from the township life, shipbuilding yards, salt harvesting and refining old-fashioned industries and various recycling industries. Boating on the Karnaphuli River is refreshing and meeting the sea fishermen is always interesting. From the ancient to the modern eras, Chittagong has developed a strong architectural sense. Beaches and authentic Chittagong cuisines should not be forgotten, Chittagong has a reputation for its amazing food culture and hospitality.

Sunrise at Patenga Beach Start your photography adventure by capturing the mesmerizing sunrise at Patenga Beach. As the first rays of the sun kiss the horizon, watch as the sky transforms into a palette of warm hues. Capture the golden light dancing on the waves, casting a magical glow over the sandy shores. Experiment with different angles and compositions to capture the essence of this serene moment.

Next, venture into the bustling city streets, where you’ll find a blend of old and new architecture. Photograph the iconic Shahi Jama-e-Masjid bathed in the soft morning light, highlighting its intricate design and historical significance. Explore some contemporary architecture by Muzharul Islam, Kashef Mahboob Chowdhury, Nahas Khalil and Saif Ul Haque. Explore the bustling markets and narrow alleys, where vibrant colors, bustling activities, and friendly faces await your lens.

Sunset at Foy’s Lake On the second day, head to Foy’s Lake, a popular recreational spot surrounded by lush greenery. As the sun starts to descend, seize the opportunity to capture the breathtaking sunset views. The golden light illuminates the lake’s tranquil waters, creating a captivating reflection of the surrounding landscape. Frame your shots with the silhouettes of trees, boats, or distant hills, adding depth and drama to your images.

As the golden hour transitions into the blue hour, continue photographing the lake’s serene ambiance. Experiment with long exposures to capture the gentle ripples of the water or the vibrant lights of the amusement park reflected on its surface.

Instead of Patenga Beach and Foy’s Lake, we can be at the shipbreaking yards, fishing villages, and closer to the daily life action for a photo story. We always remain very flexible to adopt changes according to your wishes and interests; and we know the area very well.

Day 1: Ship Breaking yards, local life, culture and architecture around Chittagong
Pickup and transferred to the domestic airport to avail first flight of the day (7:00 AM) to Chittagong. Upon arrival in Chittagong, you will be received by your driver and guide. The largest sea fish market would be our first visit for some hour. Hundreds of fishing ships lined up along the shore, preparing for a few days fish hunt or just came with tons of catches. Ocean-going wooden shipbuilding yard is next door, an impressive documentary. A short cruise on the Karnphuli river by country boat would be fascinating. Head towards the shipyard in the early afternoon and follow either Plan – A or Plan – B. We have to push the remaining plan for the following morning activity. Drive back to Chittagong town for an overnight stay at a hotel in Chittagong.   Please note that the tourists/ photographers are not allowed by the local authority and yard owners to step into the shipyard. Therefore, we are left with only two narrow options for a glimpse of the industry:   Plan – A: Boating around the shipyards by country boat few hours. We shall take a fishing boat to cruise around the yards and ships for a few hours, which is very interesting. Being on the country boat, you will have a sharp image of every detail of the ship breaking industry. You can go significantly closer to the vessel where they are at dismantle. Sometimes they (Worker/supervisor) allow you to step into the ship and take pictures as they are very far from the yard owner's eyesight. A photographer can spend a whole day cruising around the shipyards and taking photographs.   Most importantly, you can make the boat trip around the shipyards only during the high tide and when the sea is calm. The mentioned itinerary is just a rough travel plan of what you will do on this trip. You will receive a revised travel plan after booking confirmation according to the tide table coordination.   Plan – B: Walking around the shipyards nearby a fishing village. We will leave the car by the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and start walking through a Hindu fishing village, which is scenic. This walk ends at a seashore which has some shipyards around. You can see all actions of the industry even without entering into the yard.  Most of the time, we were fortunate with the golden light in the afternoon at this place. This afternoon golden light photography requires a walk through the deeper and sticky mud closer to the ship. So, physical fitness is necessary, and you have to be equipped with the right shoes for sticky, deeper (can be up to your knee) mud with lots of rusted metals.  We must come to this place during the low tide. We are one of the few guides in Bangladesh who have spent a long time researching and photographing for personal hobbies and assignments.

Day 2: Boating or walking around the world largest ship breaking yards
Leave the hotel by reserved car for ship breaking yard according to the high tide time for boating around the shipyards. After few hours of cruising around the shipyards, drive back to the town to explore some other interesting sights around the city. Chittagong has much to offer but remains undiscovered its treasure of hospitality, vibrant colours of ethnic life. We will be exploring Chittagong town in and around, including some modern and ancient architecture, an Ethnological museum, chaotic marketplace. lunch at a local restaurant and drive to Chittagong airport to avail a late afternoon flight to Dhaka. Upon arrival in Dhaka, received by the guide and transfer to the hotel for a night stay.
