Dhaka and Sundarbans trip
$1357 tour starting at
Dhaka and Sundarbans trip is a very nice combination of heritage sites and culture blended with Sundarbans nature. The backstreet walks through Old Dhaka and a day trip to Sonargaon would be unforgettable, and the Sundarban experience will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You will be exploring the inner courtyards of Old Dhaka and her fascinating culture. Pink Palace, Armenian Church, Star Mosque, Lalbagh Fort, Sadarghat River Port, colonial buildings, and bazaars are on the list too. Panam Nagar, Jamdani Sari weaving, the Folk Art and Craft Museum, boating on the Meghna River, and a Char village visit would be on the second day. We are flexible to accommodate your wishes and happy to make any changes to the travel plan.
Hotels in Dhaka and Khulna will be three- four-star category. you are more than welcome to share your opinion to customize and upgrade your comfort.
Walks through the mysterious heritage and the streets that are not yet mentioned in any travel guide, and an individual will not find those secrets by themselves. Puran Dhaka (Old Dhaka) is dirty, messy, and crowded, but that is part of its charm. Colorful rickshaws abound at every corner, and kids play cricket wherever they can. Mosques call for prayer, and shingara merchants often offer tourists free shingara or puri.
We will travel to Khulna to start our adventurous Sundarbans trip for three days. During the Sundarban trip, your accommodation and all meals will always be on our houseboat. The main vessel will carry along a wooden row boat for birdwatching and deeper creek exploration in the early morning and late afternoon while the wildlife is more active. Accommodation is on a twin-sharing basis in bunk-bedded cabins with enough common western-style bathrooms and showering facilities.
Before entering the deeper forest, we must stop at a forest ranger’s office for some paperwork and pick up some armed forest guards to accompany us throughout the trip. The armed guards will escort us during our early morning raw boat trip, jungle walks, beach walks, and all other activities inside the forest. They will ensure our safety and also make sure that we do no harm to the forest or wildlife.
All meals are freshly cooked on board, with the materials brought along from nearby Khulna. Nothing can be purchased or extracted inside the Sundarban forest during the trip. We always have to carry our survival materials and store them carefully. Menus are carefully selected with a fusion of local and Western cuisine with Bangla influences. Travelers with dietary restrictions—vegetarians or even vegans—will have no problem on this trip. We just need to be informed.
You will also walk along the fishing villages at the fringes of the Sundarbans forest. Vulnerable coastal villages have gone through a lot of ups and downs, interesting to learn the effects of climate change on the people of the Sundarbans. They have been guarding the Sundarbans and witnessing the changes in the forest, climate, and many other things. Maybe we will learn a lesson from their untold stories.
After the Sundarban trip on the way to Jeshore airport, we will visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site at Bagerhat. The sixty-domed mosque is a marvelous example of Islamic architecture near Sundarban from the 15th century, founded by Khan Jahan Ali. This area has the highest number of Mosques after Dhaka city.

- Launch departure and arrival information: Rocket/paddle Steamer is no longer in operation, no idea of its return ever. The only river journeys a tourist may experience would be by a privately owned public launch routing between Dhaka – Barisal route, which leaves between 8 PM to 9:30 PM from Sadarghat. It is a recommended trip to experience the beautiful & calm cruise and travel life on board. You are welcome to walk around your ship, meet people, make friends and take pictures. In normal situations (of weather, tide and fog) the launch arrives between 3 AM to 8 AM at Barisal.
- Cabins in the Launch: There are various cabins in a launch; Single, double, family and VIP AC / and non-AC cabins. Regular single and double cabins are the simplest and cheapest, with few common bathrooms shared by 20-25 cabins. A sensitive person may find difficulties in using a common bathroom being used by a big traveling crowd. Even the cabins near the common bathroom would feel the strong bathroom smells. VIP cabins always offer the best facilities, including a big bed for two adults, a European bathroom attached, a private balcony and some seating spaces. All VIP cabins are located in an isolated zone of the ship. The bed in the VIP cabins varies from queen/king to twins from ship to ship. Of course, this is the most expensive class on the ship. This trip includes VIP cabins for our guests' comfortable journey, good sleep, privacy and hygiene are important. Our guests always deserve more, no compromise on comfort on the journey also for the safety and privacy of our guests. A budget traveler should express their opinion regarding their cabin preference.
- Launch and Cabin for you: The name of your launch is [TBA], will reserve a nice VIP double cabin for you. And the boat will leave Sadarghat around 8:30 PM.
- Dinner onboard: They serve Bangla food (Plain rice, mixed vegetables, chicken & Fish Curries and daal) according to your order, in the dining area of the ship, located inside the VIP Zone. They require pre-orders to get the food on time. Better to settle the bill at night to avoid a rush in the morning.
- Restaurant in Sadarghat: There is a nice restaurant on the terrace of the Sadarghat River terminal building, overlooking the busy river ‘Buriganga’. The food is nice, and the view is charming. The menu has a selection of local and European-style food with Bangla influences. The spice level is mild.
- Disembarking/ arriving in Barisal: Barisal is the last stop of the boat (launch) you are riding on, so it doesn’t matter how early the boat arrives in Barisal. We can wait inside the launch until the daylight is up and then we can disembark. It is best to leave the launch by 6 AM otherwise floating markets will be gone by we will reach. Your guide will advise you on the exact meeting and departure time after consulting with your captain.
